Rally for Reproductive Rights

Saturday, October 2, 2021 , 6:00 pm
201 W Front St, Media, PA 19063-2710

Duration: 1 hr

We must MOBILIZE and DEFEND our Reproductive Rights.

Legislatures across the country are chipping away at a woman’s right to make her own reproductive health decisions. The ability to control these decisions means that women control their own destiny. Reproductive rights are an essential component of an open society, without which women cannot enjoy full equality. That’s why we have to stand up together to make our voices heard! Grandmothers, mothers, daughters! Fathers! Grandfathers! Sons!  We need every voice to fight for reproductive freedom because what impacts one, impacts all !Confirmed speakers to date:- State Representative Jennifer O’Mara (PA 165th)
– State Representative Chris Rabb (PA 200th)
– Emily Cheston, M.D.
– Kitty Kolbert (co-author: Controlling Women: What We Must Do Now to Save Reproductive Freedom.
-More to come.

Co-hosts: Indivisible Main Line South, Indivisible-Upper Darby, Bowling Green Patriots, Delco PA Indivisible, and League of Women Voters of Central Delaware County.

Join us on October 2, 2021. This is a Sister March of the National Women’s March.

For the People Act Rally

What: Democracy Can’t Wait: For the People Act Rally
Where: 69th Street Pedestrian Bridge at 69th and Market Streets in Upper Darby (near front entrance to the 69th street SEPTA station)
When: Wednesday, August 4, 5-6 p.m.
RSVPhttps://act.indivisible.org/event/local-actions/163786

We’ll have excellent signs (check out the awesome art created by Dawn!) and we will line the bridge to make our statement. We’ll also set up a voter registration table. We’re planning for media attention and a big turnout, so come join us and hold one of these gorgeous signs.

H-CAN Indivisible and Upper Darby Indivisible are partnering with the wonderful anti-corruption groupRepresentUs on this action.  Our rally is one of many organized by grassroots activists across the country forRepresentUs’s Democracy Can’t Wait campaign that will spur attendees to an important call to action: demand the Senate find a way to pass this crucial democracy reform legislation to ensure fair elections, end gerrymandering, protect the freedom to vote and end the dominance of dark money in politics, all of which the public overwhelmingly supports.

Note that there’s a large parking lot just east of the 69th street SEPTA station that generally has open spaces.

Don’t forget to RSVP for Wednesday! https://act.indivisible.org/event/local-actions/163786

Let Freedom Ring!

At this rally we’ll demand that the Senate pass the For The People Act to save our democracy. The bill expands voting rights, has automatic voter registration, expands early voting, gets rid of gerrymandering and dark money in politics. And much more. When Republican-controlled states are passing voter suppression laws at a rapid pace, we must have S.1 in place to defeat those anti-democratic laws. The best method we citizens have is to be loud and show our power.

Calls to Action: “For the People Act”

The time is NOW to get the For the People Act passed so that we can have a free and fair 2022 election and beyond. The For the People Act (S1) will be brought to the Senate floor the week of June 21, but we expect it will be filibustered and not pass, at first.

As we inch closer to the Deadline for Democracy, please keep up the pressure on our Senatorsto pass S1. Click here for scripts created by an Indivisible Democracy Reform Working Group member, based on our Senators’ current positions.

Please also sign Indivisible’s Pledge to Call for Democracy Reform – a pledge to contact your Senators every day from June 21-June 25. When you sign up, you’ll get a script each day to use for your calls.

Calls to Action

·         Text For the People: Join a Common Cause text-bank to encourage constituents in key states to contact their Senators. Here’s one that is on Tuesday, June 8, 11 am – 1 pm, but see link below for more options.

·         Call For the People: Join a phonebank with Indivisible, Common Cause and other group members to connect people in key states to their Senators’ office. Last week, a few of us joined the Thursday phone bank, which resulted in 119 people patched through to Joe Manchin’s office.  Here’s the link to join this Thursday’s 6-8 pm event.https://www.mobilize.us/commoncause/event/376178/. The session includes training.

·         If you can’t make either of these but want to text or call, click here to see additional volunteer opportunities.

·         Write a letter to the Editor – send a letter to the editor about ending the filibuster and passing HR 1 so that we can get big money out of politics, ensure our freedom to vote, and guarantee that congressional districts are drawn to give fair representation for all.Declaration for American Democracy created a handy toolkit that will help walk you through the steps.

·         Help plan a Deadline for Democracy action. Congress will be on recess from June 28-July 10. We need volunteers to help plan and participate in our Indivisible action, which will be one of many across the country to draw national attention to passing the For the People Act. We want every Senator who’s currently supporting the bill to feel in their bones that this MUST pass, and those who don’t support it to feel incredible amounts of pressure from constituents who do! Email Pam if you can help in any way or have ideas on a visible, press-worthy event.

We know people are tired, busy and burnt out about politics. But, we hope you can find a reserve of energy to participate in one or more ways over the next several weeks to help save free and fair elections, the cornerstone of our democracy.

Indivisible Truth Brigade

Become a member of Indivisible’s “Truth Brigade” to help fight disinformation on social media. Recently covered in the national press, the Truth Brigade is recruiting volunteers to dispel falsehoods through their networks. This ties directly to the S1 actions because there’s a ton of disinformation about the For the People Act flowing into key states.

Information on joining this week’s call is below. You can sign up for the Truth Brigade here

PA Statewide Week of Tell Toomey Action!

PA Statewide #TellToomey Week of Action

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a champion for civil rights and gender equality, passed away on September 18.We cannot let Donald Trump destroy her legacy by replacing her with a justice from his shortlist of conservative extremists. Anyone Trump picks to replace RBG would no doubt undo all of the progressive change she fought for her whole life. In order to uphold RBG’s legacy, PA is calling and visiting district office visits and texting and emailing Toomey to remind him we won’t forget his words so easily.

Follow the actions below to find out more!

Thursday, 9/24

Phone ALL offices with this script

I demand that Senator Toomey REFUSE to consider any Supreme Court Justice until the new president is inaugurated. The American people deserve to have their voice heard in what could shift the Court irreparably for our lifetimes.  As Senator Toomey said in regards to appointing a Supreme Court justice in 2016: “With the presidential election fewer than 8 months away, it is wise to give the American people a more direct voice in the selection and confirmation of the next justice.”It’s 2020, and the shoe still fits. Do the right thing and let the American people use their voice.

Save Democracy

Hi Friends,

It’s nearly here….our first phone bank that’s part of the Windivisible effort to defeat Trump, take back the Senate and keep the House!

We’ll be partnering with Indivisible Haverford Blue Crew and dialing to save democracy on Monday, July 27, 6:30 – 8:30 pm.  Thanks to all of you who’ve signed up for this virtual event already. If you haven’t signed up yet…it is not too late!  Please RSVP here if you haven’t signed up already.   When you sign up, you will receive the zoom link for the session.  I will also send the link out to everyone who has signed up on Monday morning so you have it handy.

Action ID** If you don’t yet have an Action ID, please register for one ahead of Monday: https://accounts.ngpvan.com/Account/RegisterPrivate.  Even if you aren’t joining the phone bank, it makes sense to have one because you might text or do other voter contact and you’ll probably need it at some point.

If you feel you can’t do phone banking for any reason but still want to be part of the effort to defeat Trump and his cronies…. Indivisible Upper Darby still runs Postcards at the Pub every Tuesday….but we don’t actually go to the pub…we write postcards over Zoom!  It is fun and a way you can support the effort to Dump Trump and Ditch Mitch!  If you would like to get a supply of postcards to write…even if you don’t want to zoom with us….go here and fill out the form and we will get the postcards to you.  If y ou want to Zoom, let us know and we’ll send you a link.

For those of you who can make the phone bank….we will have some fun, visit with Mike Zabel, and most importantly have a chance to talk with voters.  Hope to see you on Monday!
